Middleton-Cross Plains Area School District officials say an employee has been paid over $28,000 since the staff member was placed on leave in connection with an October, racial incident.
District Human Resources Director Tabatha Gundrum said Monday the worker has received $28,639 while on paid leave. District officials say the employee's received $22,578 in salary and $6,061 in benefits. Officials originally refused to reveal the amount given to the employee who has not been publicly identified.
The staff member was placed on leave after officials said a session of state-required testing of students in certain high school grades was segregated by race and involved only minority students. Officials said the tested students were notified through Middleton High School to show up for the testing during a study period because they had yet to take the test.
School District officials have offered no explanation as to why race was used to assemble the students for testing. They have also put no timetable on the continuing investigation or the employee's leave.
