Additional unemployment benefits available under Extended Benefit program

Unemployed workers who had used up their benefits will now qualify for an additional 13 weeks.

Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development Secretary Caleb Frostman announced on Friday that due to an increase in the state’s unemployment rate, Wisconsin triggered the Extended Benefit program.

According to the DWD, the Extended Benefit program will provide additional unemployment benefits to those who used up previous benefits, starting May 17.

Unemployed individuals who used up their regular unemployment benefits and Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC) may be eligible for an additional 13 weeks of benefits.

The DWD said that the Extended Benefit program does not apply to individuals collecting Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA).

DWD also said that they still need to program their system to address the Extended Benefit program, which will be done after programming for PEUC is completed.

This may delay payments from the Extended Benefit program but the DWD said that all eligible individuals will receive back payments.
