SUN PRAIRIE (WKOW) -- Police in Sun Prairie say officers responded to the Target store as people were looting.
According to Sun Prairie Police, about a dozen vehicles were in the parking lot of the Target on Grand Avenue and people were breaking into the store and taking products.
As officers arrived, police say two to three vehicles left the area. One of them hit an officer's squad car. The officer was not hurt.
Police started to chase one of the vehicles, which eventually was stopped by a DeForest officer near the on ramp to I-94.
Officers arrested the driver of that vehicle, 40-year-old Casimer Kipton, and the passenger, 35-year-old Lavette Brown. They also recovered merchandise taken from the Target store.
Kipton was booked on charges of burglary and felony eluding. Brown was booked on a charge of party to a crime to burglary.
Investigators say the vehicle Kipton was driving was not the vehicle that hit the officer's squad car. Police are still trying to find that vehicle.
Sun Prairie police say this looting was related to the events in Madison.
Police are still actively investigating what happened. If you have any information, you should call Sun Prairie Police at 608-837-7336 or anonymously at 608-837-6300.
