For the first time since protests have started in Wisconsin in the wake of George Floyd's death, Governor Tony Evers took questions from reporters Thursday.
Evers began a press briefing saying, Floyd's life matters, and he should still be alive today.
The governor called racism "a disease."
He was asked whether deploying the Wisconsin National Guard contributed to violence and destruction starting.
Evers said the guard has been advised to protect state properties and utilities.
"And the did that well," said Evers. "The guard has done exactly what we asked them to do."
Evers also recognized that the majority of people demonstrating are peacefully exercising their rights.
