Efforts to find missing girl on Rock River transition to recovery

UPDATE (WKOW) -- Janesville authorities confirmed their efforts to find a young girl missing on the Rock River have turned from a search into a recovery.

Deputy Police Chief Terry Sheridan confirmed the change in mission to 27 News.

Sheridan referenced the time that has passed since the girl went missing Thursday evening as reasoning for the shift.

UPDATE (WKOW) -- Search and rescue efforts have resumed on the Rock River Friday morning.

Crews are looking for a young girl who was swept away near Angler's Park Thursday evening.

Her family said the girl was playing with a little boy by the river before the accident.

Deputy Police Chief Terry Sheridan tells 27 News that a woman fishing nearby pulled the boy out but couldn't reach the girl. Police say the boy is OK.

Crews were hindered in the search because it was so dark and didn't have the right lights or equipment to safely search the river. The current is really strong in that area so it's making unsafe for divers to go into the water. Crews are working to stem the flow of the river to slow the current.

The girl remains missing.
