Suspect in attack on state senator on leave from Mount Horeb school job

Mount Horeb (WKOW) - A suspect in the June attack on State Senator Tim Carpenter is on leave from her job as a social worker with the Mount Horeb Area School District.

A representative with the school district says Samantha R. Hamer, 26, was placed on administrative leave in connection with her arrest for the alleged attack on Carpenter.

Madison Police say Hamer and Kerida E. O'Reilly, 33, were among a group of people who hit and kicked Carpenter after he videotaped a protest of racial inequity near the State Capitol.

Carpenter was later hospitalized and treated for a broken nose and concussion.

Hamer was also cited and fined in June 2018 after refusing to stop blocking travel and commerce on State Street during a protest.

A Dane County District Attorney's representative says Hamer and O'Reilly are scheduled to appear in court Wednesday in connection to the attack incident.
