Juneteenth to become paid holiday for Dane County government employees

MADISON (WKOW) -- Dane County Board members passed a resolution Thursday night making Juneteenth a paid holiday for county government employees.

Juneteenth is celebrated every year on June 19th. It recognizes the date in 1865 that enslaved African-Americans in Texas learned slavery was over.

The move in Dane County is another step forward for the recognition of Juneteenth after theflag flew over the State Capitolfor the first time back in June.
