MADISON (WKOW) -- Six vehicles were damaged and one stray bullet nearly hit two small children when gunshots were fired in a neighborhood on Madison's east side Sunday night.
Madison Police Department Spokesperson Stephanie Fryer says officers were called to the 200 block of North Thompson Drive around 7:20 p.m. Sunday. Fryer says there were multiple reports of people hearing shots being fired and people running from the area.
When police got there, they found a bullet-damaged SUV that had been abandoned in the middle of the street. In all, they found six vehicles damaged by bullets.
Fryer says a stray bullet also entered one home, coming within feet of two small children.
Police cleared nearby buildings and did not find any victims.
Fryer says officers recovered nearly 80 shell casings along the 200 and 300 blocks of Milwaukee Street. Fryer says the casings came from multiple weapons.
One person who was trying to run from the area was taken to the Dane County Jail for resisting.
