1 dead after car crashes into lagoon in Monona

MONONA, Wis. (WKOW) -- One person is dead after a car crashed into a lagoon in Monona early Monday, according to the Monona Fire Department.

Assistant Fire Chief Robert Miller told 27 News that crews were called to the 700 block of Pirate Island Road around 1:15 a.m.

When they arrived, they found a car had flipped and was stuck in the water and muck.

A witness said one person was pulled from the car. Authorities later confirmed that the individual was dead.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
