Police looking for driver who hit and killed dog in Madison

MADISON (WKOW) -- Police in Madison are trying to find the driver who hit and killed a dog, and then drove off.

Police spokesperson Stephanie Fryer says a woman and her 16-month-old Cockapoo took a walk around 8 a.m. Wednesday. They were crossing Highland Ave. at Kendall Ave. and were in the crosswalk when the crash happened.

Fryer says a car going west on Kendall Ave. turned south onto Highland Ave. and did not yield to the woman.

The dog was hit and killed. Fryer says the animal was on a leash.

The woman was not hurt.

Fryer says the driver stopped for a brief period of time, but then left the area.
