Snow is headed for Southern Wisconsin

(WKOW) Following what is expected to be a quiet start to our Wednesday, our first taste of winter weather will arrive in the form of scattered snow showers moving in from portions of the Upper Great Plains early tomorrow afternoon. It is possible that some of these scattered snow showers may impact our Wednesday evening commute. Additionally, westerly winds gusting as high as 30 mph combined with those snow showers may drop visibility at times. The best chances for scattered bursts of snow will occur between 12PM and 8PM on Wednesday.

Our highest likelihood of snowfall is expected to reach portions of Southern Wisconsin on Thursday morning. Cold Canadian air intermingling with a large plume of moisture pushing southward from the U.P. will combine to produce a heavy and wet snowfall over the southern half of the state. Travel conditions are expected to deteriorate throughout the first half of our Thursday, greatly impacting your morning commute and lunch hour. Wind gusts as high as 40 mph are also anticipated. Preliminary projections indicate that up to 2" of snow accumulation will be possible east of Madison while Madison and the areas west of the Capital City will see an inch or less; however, the wet snowfall paired with mild surface temperatures will keep accumulations fairly inconsistent across the area.
