Belleville student facing charges for threatening to harm school staff

BELLEVILLE, Wis. (WKOW) — A 12-year-old has been referred to juvenile court after police say they threatened school staff.

Interim Police Chief Chris P. Hughes said on Monday at 3:23 p.m., police responded to the Belleville School District Office, where school officials stated they received information from students that a fellow classmate had plans to harm staff members and themselves.

Following an investigation, police have referred a 12-year-old child from rural Belleville to Dane County Juvenile Court authorities for violations of disorderly conduct and terrorist threats.

Police and school officials said there is no further threat to the safety of the school and community. The juvenile remains in the custody of their parents.

School officials have advised the juvenile and their parents that their child is not allowed on school property until school officials have determined next steps in accordance with statutory and district protocols, Hughes said.

Since this incident, Hughes said Belleville police have been providing extra presence throughout the school day and during school events.

Police and school officials thank the students that came forward to report the incident.

“We are pleased students have taken to heart the safety of their environment and the importance of if they see or hear something that causes them concern to immediately report it to school officials or police,” Hughes said.
