Suspect charged in connection to Beaver Dam Amber Alert appears in court

PAPILLION, Neb. (WKOW) -- A man charged in connection to the disappearance of a Wisconsin teenager appeared in a Nebraska courtroom on Friday.

Our affiliate KETV reports Gary Day, 40, pleaded not guilty to charges he is facing in Sarpy County, including contributing to the delinquency of a minor and providing a false name to law enforcement.

Investigators said Day and the teenager he is accused of abducting, 17-year-old Sophia Franklin, were spotted by truck drivers at a gas station in Omaha on Wednesday. The truck driver called 911 after something seemed off with their stories.

Franklin and Day were last seen on separate occasions near Franklin's Beaver Dam home in early February. An Amber Alert was issued shortly after Franklin's disappearance.

Police believe Franklin and Day met online. A no-contact order is in place between the two of them. Franklin is five months pregnant. Police believe Day impregnated her.

Day is charged with two counts of abducting a child and two counts of child enticement in Wisconsin. An arrest warrant is active. He's also facing criminal charges in his home state of Arkansas.
