Former Badger hockey coach Jeff Sauer dies at 73

A legendary former coach at UW Madison has died.   Jeff Sauer was 73 and passed away Thursday morning after battling pancreatic cancer.  Sauer coached the UW Men's Hockey Team from 1982 to 2002, winning 2 NCAA championships in '83 and '90.    

Last fall, he was inducted into the UW Athletic Hall of Fame. Sauer was inducted in the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame in 2014. 

He was born in Fort Atkinson in March of 1943, but grew up in St Paul.  Before coaching at UW Madison, Sauer coached at his alma mater, Colorado College.
