Homicide victim ID'd; person-of-interest in custody

- The Dane County Medical Examiner's Office identifies the victim of a downtown Madison homicide as 46-year old Andrew Nesbitt.

In a statement, Medical Examiner spokesperson Barry Irmen says Nesbitt died as "...the result of homicidal sharp force injuries."

Madison Police spokesperson Joel DeSpain says an arrest was made with connection to the case.  "A man was taken into custody (Tuesday) on charges unrelated to the homicide.  He is currently in the Dane County jail and a person of interest in this case,"  DeSpain says.

Madison Police officials say Nesbitt's body was found Monday around 4 p.m. by his returning roommate at their apartment at 27 North Butler Street.  Friends say Nesbitt moved into the unit earlier this month.

DeSpain says there was no forced entry into the apartment.27 News has confirmed Nesbitt was at a Madison bar early Monday morning, celebrating his birthday.

MADISON (WKOW) -- A source with knowledge of a Madison Police investigation into a downtown homicide says the victim is a 46-year old man who recently moved into the apartment building where his body was found.

The source spoke with 27 News on the condition of anonymity.  The Dane County Medical Examiner has yet to identify the victim.  27 News is keeping the victim's identify private until authorities make a public notification.

Madison Police Chief Mike Koval says the body of the homicide victim was found around 4 P.M. Monday, when his roommate returned to the unit after she had spent a weekend away.

The body was discovered in an apartment on the second floor of the security-locked, three story building at 27 North Butler Street.

The source with knowledge of the investigation says police officials have told building tenants there was no forced entry into the victim's unit.  Authorities have announced no arrests in connection with the killing.

The 46-year old victim is a former Sun Prairie resident.  The last post to his Facebook page was shortly after 10 p.m. Sunday.  The victim's birthday was Monday, the day his body was discovered.
