Madison police investigate shooting, crash


UPDATE: The MPD's Violent Crime Unit has determined the  shooting took place at nearby Penn Park, just minutes prior to the S.  Park St. crash. The driver of the car that hit the utility pole - a  34-year-old man who has no permanent address - was taken to a hospital  with serious gunshot wounds. He is currently listed in stable condition.  VCU detectives believe the victim was specifically targeted by a  shooter, although the motive for the gun violence is not yet known. No  suspect has been identified.

Tue, April 4- Just after 1 a.m. Madison officers responded to South Park St near Badger Road  reference a motor vehicle accident with power lines down.  Further  investigation revealed that an individual involved in the accident had  apparent gun shot wounds and was immediately transported to an area  hospital.  

This remains an active investigation. 

During this investigation, all lanes of South Park Street were shut down  for approximately 3 hours.  While the road is back open to thorough  traffic, utility crews remain on scene due to the downed power lines.   Please use caution when driving in this area.
