Madison man accused of killing state worker is found guilty

MADISON (WKOW) -- The man accused of killing a retired state worker in Madison has been found guilty of murder.

Dennis Hassel 57-year-old was convicted Tuesday night in the April 2015 strangling death of 76-year-old Larry Ewing, according to court records. The jury found Hassel guilty on charge of 1st Degree Intentional Homicide.

The state is asking the judge to sentence Hassel to life in prison. His sentencing hearing is set for June 22.

Authorities say Ewing was found strangled in his Madison apartment with his hands in bowls of bleach.
