Person of interest in custody in fatal hit and run crash in Dane County

WESTPORT (WKOW) -- Dane County Sheriff's officials say a person of interest has been taken into custody in connection to a fatal hit and run crash.

Sheriff's Spokesperson Elise Schaffer says the person of interest was booked in the Dane County jail Sunday on a suspected probation violation.

Schaffer says the person of interest's car was also seized.  She says the car was damaged.

Authorities say a passerby spotted a 30 year old man's body Saturday night just before midnight on County Highway 113 just south of Highway M.  Schaffer says his injuries were consistent with a pedestrian being hit by a car.  She also says it's unclear as to whether the victim was on the road's shoulder, or attempting to cross the highway.  Schaffer says the victim was properly walking against traffic.

Schaffer says the investigation continues, as the man in custody has yet to be charged in connection to the fatal collision.
