DANE COUNTY (WKOW) -- Dane County Sheriff's officials Friday identified the person of interest in a fatal hit and run collision in the Town of Westport, and court records show the man was found slumped over the wheel with a child in his car, three hours after the crash.Sheriff's officials identify the person of interest as 25-year old Francisco Martinez.

"We know that at the time of his arrest, a child was in the vehicle,"  Sheriff David Mahoney tells 27 News.

Records show Martinez was arrested Sunday at 3:30 a.m. on Chalet Gardens Road by Fitchburg Police officers.  An affidavit for a court-approved search to obtain Martinez's blood sample says his speech was slurred, and his eyes glassy, and a six-year-old child was in the car's back seat.

Authorities say just before midnight Saturday on Highway 113, a 30-year-old pedestrian was hit and killed, with the driver leaving the scene.  A spokesperson for the Dane County Medical Examiner identifies the victim as Curtis Bonds of Waunakee.  He says an autopsy shows Bonds died of blunt force injuries from being hit by a vehicle.

Sheriff's officials say the suspect car in the hit-and-run was a gold, 2003 Chevrolet Impala.  Officials say Martinez's car has been seized, and it is damaged.  Officials say they hope the identification of Martinez will help people recall seeing Martinez the night of the crash.

"Martinez was in a vehicle that matched the description of the vehicle we were looking for,"  Mahoney says.

State records show Martinez is a repeat drunk driver, with two convictions for operating while intoxicated, and a conviction for OWI with a passenger under the age of 16.  Records show Martinez drove drunk with a four year old child in his car in 2015.  Records show the car was a 2003 Chevrolet Impala.
