Al Franken Resigns From U.S. Senate

Embattled Senator Al Franken will resign in coming weeks.  The Minnesota Democrat has been under intense pressure to step down over numerous accusations of sexual misconduct.  Speaking on the floor of the Senate on Thursday (December 7th), Franken said some of the allegations are untrue. He argued that he remembers other instances differently. Franken defended his legislative record and said he has tried to be a champion of women.

The former comedian faced mounting opposition after more than 30 Democratic senators called for Franken to resign yesterday.

Eight women have accused Franken of inappropriate sexual conduct. Many of the allegations are from before he was a Senator, but the most recent accuser said he groped her and tried to kiss her during a Media Matters party following President Obama's inauguration in 2009.
