Police make arrests in string of recent bank robberies

-- Police have arrested two men in connection with a string of bank robberies in the Madison area in the past few months.

Police today announced the arrest of Jonathon L. Thompson and Kierfah A. Marbra in connection with a February bank robbery in Middleton and possibly nine other recent bank robberies

In a news conference Friday, Police Chief Mike Koval said the two men arrested likely weren't connected to the attempted robbery Thursday at the Chase Bank on Milwaukee Street where the alleged robber was shot and killed by a security guard.

Koval said they are continuing to investigate if there is a connection between Thursday's attempted robbery and the recent "Deadpool" robberies, where the robber wore a mask of a fictional cartoon character.

Koval said robber who was killed late Thursday afternoon later was found not have a gun, however the determination on possible charges against the security guard would come only after consideration by the district attorney. At this point, no charges have been filed.

The suspect has not yet been identified, but Koval did say the suspect had a criminal history that included bank robbery.
