Monroe St. construction starts Monday

MADISON (WKOW) -- Road construction on Monroe Street in Madison starts Monday.

For some businesses in that area, the project could not have come at a worse time. With spring just around the corner, some business owners are worried that they'll see a decrease in sales during the 10 month project.

"Everybody's just like...what are you going to do, you know," said John Dunn, general manager of the Cat Cafe on Monroe Street. "You try to do as much marketing as you can. You try to get people here. Madison Metro is going to offer free bus rides on the weekends, but is it really going to help us? I mean, we're losing a lot of business during the week."

Construction is expected to last until mid-November. The work will be done between Odana/Nakoma roads and Regent Street. Monroe will be down to one lane in each direction, affecting both car and pedestrian traffic.
