Woman injured in car-pedestrian accident on Park St

UPDATE (WKOW) -- Madison Police say a 38-year-old woman, wearing dark clothing, was in the roadway when she was hit on S Park St. Friday morning shortly before 5:45 a.m.  She was just north of Hughes Pl., not using a crosswalk.  

According to a news release, the driver who hit her was heading south on S Park St. and stopped and rendered aid after the accident.  Police say the driver will not be cited or charged.  

The pedestrian remains at the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Northbound lanes of S Park St. were closed while police investigated, but have since been opened to traffic.

An adult female pedestrian was crossing S Park St north of Hughes Pl, not using the crosswalk.  A vehicle was southbound and struck the pedestrian who was wearing all dark clothing and was in the roadway.The operator of the vehicle that struck the pedestrian immediately stopped and rendered aid along with other citizens in the area.  The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries.S Park St was closed for approximately 1 hour during scene processing.  The operator of the vehicle will not be cited.
