Early morning standoff at Madison's Public Safety Building ends

MADISON (WKOW) -- Madison Police arrested a 41-year-old man after an hour long standoff at the Public Safety Building on West Doty street early Tuesday morning.

Officials say it started at around 5:30 A.M. when a man armed with a knife started banging on the main entrance door.

Officers negotiated with the suspect for about an hour before taking him into custody.

Nobody was hurt during the standoff.

Doty Street was shutdown between Carol Street and Fairchild Street during the standoff as a safety precaution.

The suspect was taken to the hospital for a mental health evaluation.
