CMS Report: Meriter doctors waited to take action on injured babies

MADISON (WKOW) -- The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services issued report findings on Friday concerning abuse allegations.

The new report shows that doctors at Meriter hospital waited days before taking action to help injured babies. According to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Seven citations were handed out against Meriter for inadequately responding to the injuries which is first occurred in April 2017. Meriter has put in a corrective plan.

The document shows that on February 3, a parent of a baby at the NICU at UnityPoint Health-Meriter told a nurse about scratches on the baby's left wrist. An attending nurse identified bruising and notified management.

On February 8, the "Attending Neonatologist" reviewed the patient and revealed that there was scalp swelling. The patient also had other injuries.
