Man breaks into Madison home, assaults woman and leaves with cash

MADISON (WKOW) -- A woman was awakened at her home in Madison early Wednesday morning by a burglar who groped her and pointed a gun at her head before leaving with a purse, which had cash and cell phones inside, said the Madison Police Department.

Officials said a man likely got into the residence on the 2800 block of Commercial Avenue through an unlocked window. It wasn't until about 3:30 a.m. when the 45-year-old woman realized the suspect was standing over her as she slept on a couch. MPD said the man had a bandana covering his face, no shirt on and was pointing a gun at her head.

The man began talking to the woman, trying to get her to leave the home and go to an ATM machine. The woman refused.

Authorities said the suspect eventually left with a purse, which contained cash and cell phones, through the same window he had entered earlier.

When officers arrived, they were able to find most of the resident's belongings. They used a K-9 to track the suspect, but that was unsuccessful.

Madison Police officials said the suspect is a black man, around 5' 10", he was wearing black pants with stripes down the side.
