Crash causes human waste to spill onto I-39 near Rockford

WINNEBAGO COUNTY (WREX) -

UPDATE: Traffic has opened up on I-39 after a crash caused delays for more than an hour.

Winnebago County Sheriff's say that carnival employees were pulling a 31 foot sleeping trailer, which had tanks of human waste.

The sheriff's say the trailer was passing by a semi-truck which caused the trailer to sway back and forth and turn over. When the trailer hit the ground, the tanks of human waste exploded onto the road.

Two people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The crash happened just after one p.m. and I-39 is now open again.

The delay caused rerouted traffic, which led to another crash near Mulford Road and Baxter Road.

Officials say that an SUV ran a stop sign and hit another vehicle.

One person was taken to the hospital with minor injuries in that crash.
