Madison police arrest person of interest in two weekend robberies

Madison police have arrested a person of interest in connection with a robbery and an attempted robbery from over the weekend.

The robbery happened Sunday morning. Police say s 22-year-old woman was walking on North Bedford St. when a stranger ran up behind her and stole her purse. She told police the suspect rode away on a bicycle.

A few hours later, there was an attempted strong armed robbery on N. Lake St. Following the first attack, officers were able to identify a potential suspect by reviewing surveillance images.

The man seen in the images was located on State St. a short time later. He was taken into custody on a probation warrant and is expected to be tentatively charged with both cases.

Police have not released any information on the person of interest because he has not been charged.
