The Department of Health Services confirms the first death in Wisconsin related to the use of synthetic marijuana.
Wisconsin has seen 45 cases since March of this year of people becoming sick after using fake weed, K2 or spice. Some of those confirmed cases were in Dane and Rock Counties.
The death related to synthetic marijuana was in Milwaukee County, according to DHS.
“We are continuing to work with local health departments, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Poison Control Center, and other partners to try to identify common products or sources,” State Health Officer Karen McKeown said in a news release.
DHS is urging people to stop using these drugs. If you or someone you know has a serious reaction, you should call 911 or go to the emergency department.
DHS says synthetic cannabinoids put you at a risk for bleeding and the product can stay in your system for months. They are not legal in Wisconsin.
