Man accused of killing Milwaukee police officer held on $1.5M bail

MILWAUKEE (WKOW) -- Jonathan Copeland Jr., accused of fatally shooting Milwaukee police officer Michael Michalski last week, was ordered held on $1.5 million bail during his initial court appearance Tuesday.

According to WKOW's Milwaukee affiliate WISN, A criminal complaint filed a day earlier alleges that Copeland hid in a pile of clothes at the top of a staircase and ambushed Michalski as he came up the stairs to attempt an arrest.

Michalski's funeral is Wednesday.

WISN reports the court commissioner scheduled Copeland's next court appearance for Aug. 9.
