Two teens arrested in southwest Madison car theft

Two teens were taken into custody Tuesday afternoon for stealing a car with the keys left inside, according to Madison police.

The car was stolen from a driveway on Dewberry Drive on Madison's southwest side near the Highpoint-Midtown Road area.

With help from the MPD's Gang Unit, the teens were found Tuesday afternoon hiding in an apartment at 50 S. Gammon Rd. One was in a locked bathroom, the other was under a pile of clothes in a bedroom.

The teen under the pile was arrested on a warrant for operating a motor vehicle without owner's consent and theft.

At age 15, his past criminal history includes aggravated battery, eluding police officers, resisting and obstructing and stealing cars, according to police.

He was also found in possession of an undisclosed amount of marijuana

The 13-year-old suspect, who was in the bathroom, had just run from officers after they found him with the stolen car that was parked in the 7000 block of Flower Lane.

The car had been stolen Monday after a woman hired to clean the home had left it unlocked with the keys inside.
