Recovery coaches help people after opioid overdose

A unique program supporting the recovery of people addicted to opioids has served more than 200 people in its first year.

ED2Recovery is managed by the Wisconsin Voices for Recovery. Funded by a grant from the Department of Health Services, the program employs a network of people who have overcome an opioid addiction. These people contact people who are taken the hospital after an opioid overdose. The goal is to guide these people to treatment services and coach them on their journey to recovery.

The program is available at 21 hospitals statewide. Participating hospitals in the Madison area include Beaver Dam Community Hospital in Beaver Dam, Fort Memorial Hospital in Fort Atkinson, Mercy Health Hospital in Janesville, SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison, and Waupun Memorial Hospital in Waupun.
