Authorities receive 200+ tips in case of missing 13-year-old

Authorities in Barron County say they have no new leads in the case of a missing 13-year-old girl.

The Barron County Sheriff’s Office says it has received more than 200 tips about Jayme Closs’s disappearance.

Authorities have been searching for Jayme since early Monday when a 911 call led to the discovery of her parents’ bodies. They were identified as 46-year-old Denis Closs and 56-year-old James Closs.

Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald said during Tuesday’s news conference that  there was a shooting at the house, but he won’t reveal a cause of death until autopsies are completed. Those autopsies are scheduled for Wednesday.

Fitzgerald also said Jayme was last seen at a family gathering Sunday afternoon, but he provided no details.

Authorities are dismissing a tip placing Jayme’s possible whereabouts in Miami. Fitzgerald says the tip is not credible, and that Miami police tweeted the information without consulting with Wisconsin investigators.

“We’re begging, we’re asking people to look out for behavioral changes in people that you don’t really know that may have been involved in this crime,” said Fitzgerald.  “That’s the information we need and that’s why were over 200 tips which is a great source but we need those tips to come in.”

Authorities ask that if you have any information about Jayme’s disappearance, that you call their tip line. The number is 1-855-744-3879.
