TOWN OF BARRON (WKOW) — Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald says FBI agents are now assisting his deputies in the search for the 13-year-old girl missing since early Monday morning. Deputies say Jayme Closs’ parents were killed and when they arrived to the family home overnight, Jayme was missing.
In a press briefing Tuesday morning, Sheriff Fitzgerald said detectives are following up on every tip they receive about Jayme’s possible whereabouts. He said they continue to get tips “all the time.”
Jayme is 5 feet tall, 100 pounds, has green eyes, and blonde or strawberry blonde hair. Anyone with information about Jayme’s location or what happened is asked to call 1-855-144-3897.
Her parents, James and Denise, were found murdered in their home in just after 1:00 a.m. Monday. Fitzgerald would not say how the two died but hinted he would release that information later in the day following the completion of autopsies on the couple.
Fitzgerald did not identify a possible suspect but asked the people who live in the area to pay attention to other people’s behavior. He said people guilty of a crime will often change their behavior or routine.
The Sheriff did not directly respond to questions about a tweet from Miami, Florida, police saying someone spotted a girl who looked like Jayme Closs as a gas station Monday afternoon. Fitzgerald said he would only release information he believes will help investigators saying, “our number one goal is to bring Jayme home.”
The drive from Barron County to Miami is roughly 26 hours.
Fitzgerald said Jayme attended a family function Sunday afternoon but he didn’t elaborate on the type of function or the Closs family’s activity between the function and when someone in the home called 911 early Monday.
The 911 call to dispatchers came from a cell phone, Fitzgerald said the dispatcher did not make contact with anyone.
