The Sears store at the Janesville mall is expected to close by early 2019, city of Janesville officials have confirmed.
Gale Price, the city’s economic development director, said the city learned the standalone automotive center at Sears and the Sears store are set to close by Feb. 3, 2019. He learned about the impending closure from a mall tenant, he said.
Price said the city has not yet learned how many employees will be affected, and the state hasn’t filed any notice of closure yet.
Sears has been in bankruptcy and restructuring proceedings since last month.
Earlier this year, the company closed its stores at Madison’s East Towne and West Towne malls.
