Women arrested after dead, malnourished horses found

Two women face charges after dead and malnourished horses were found on a property in Adams County.

The Adams County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were called to the property in the town of Strongs Prairie on November 1.

Deputies found 34 malnourished horses, two dead horses and a third horse that had to be put down. Officers say their investigation indicates the animals died from a lack of nutrition and care.

Deputies arrested 55-year-old Kimberly Schmid and 57-year-old Sandra Gorman of Arkdale.

Schmid and Gorman are expected to face animal mistreatment charges.
