Volunteer Girl Scout leader accused of multiple sex assaults of a child

A Sun Prairie volunteer Girl Scout leader is accused of multiple sex assaults of a child.

Steven C. Faust, 49, Sun Prairie was arrested Thursday and faces charges of engaging in repeated acts of child sexual assault of the same child, according to a Sun Prairie Police news release.

Police began their investigation several weeks ago into the incidents that reportedly took place between 2010 and 2015.

Police say Faust has been communicating through social media with multiple juvenile females, according to a Sun Prairie police news release. He was volunteering as a Girl Scout Troop leader during these incidents, police say.

Anyone with information regarding this crime can call the Sun Prairie Police at (608) 837-7336or anonymously at (608) 837-6300.

In a statement Friday, Badgerland Council of the Girl Scouts said it was made aware of the arrest by the Sun Prairie Police Department.

Upon learning of the charges, Faust was terminated from his Girl Scout volunteer position.

“Our first and highest priority is the safety and well-being of our Girl Scouts,” said Marci Henderson, CEO, Girl Scouts of Wisconsin – Badgerland in the statement. “Our focus is to provide care and assistance to the families impacted. We ask the public to please respect the privacy of our girls and their families during this difficult time so they can focus on healing and moving forward.”

Girl Scout protocol requires every troop to have two unrelated adults, one of whom must be female, to lead the troop. Additionally, every troop co-leader and troop volunteer is required to undergo a thorough background check, which the former volunteer passed at that time.

Badgerland Girl Scouts urges anyone with questions or concerns regarding this situation to contact the Sun Prairie Police Department.
