Three killed when chase ends with vehicle in river in Milwaukee

Authorities released new details about the investigation into the police chase that ended with a car going into a river in Milwaukee, killing three people inside.

Part of that investigation includes new surveillance video of the chase.

Authorities say the car was connected to several armed robberies.

Officers tried to pull over the driver, but he took off and eventually lost control, sending the vehicle into the Kinnickinnic River Monday night.

First responders tried to rescue the people in the car before it sank.

One crew member got stuck in debris during the rescue.

“You can only imagine the panic that sets in. Zero visibility, freezing water, you lose dexterity, the water’s cold, 36 degrees, never let go of that victim one second,” says Deputy Chief Kevin Hafemann with the Milwaukee Fire Department.

The person Deputy Chief Hafemann is referencing is 19-year-old Shannan Nehmer.

Her body was recovered Monday night.

The bodies of Nehmer’s two-year-old daughter and 29-year-old boyfriend were found Tuesday.

Police believe the child may have been in the vehicle during the robberies.
