Man, cats safe after house fire on Madison’s east side

UPDATE (WKOW) — The only person inside a Madison home when it caught on fire Wednesday morning made it out safely, according to Madison Fire spokesperson Cynthia Schuster.

Schuster said the man has two cats, and they are both accounted for.

Investigators are still trying to figure out what caused the fire. The extent of the damage is also to be determined.

Schuster said this fire was the coldest fought in Madison Fire Chief Steven Davis’ career. Air temperatures have been around -25, and wind chills near -50.

Fire crews were still monitoring the scene as of 7:30 a.m. Wednesday.
