Monona police arrest two teens with handguns and marijuana in vehicle

Two teens, one of whom suffered an apparent drug overdose, were arrested Tuesday after police found guns and marijuana in their vehicle.

A Monona police officer spotted a silver BMW sedan about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday in the area of West Broadway and Frazier Avenue.

Witnesses had reported to the officer that the vehicle had been driving erratically and the officer stopped the vehicle in a nearby gas station parking lot.

The driver, a 17-year-old male, was unsteady on his feet and exhibited signs of being under the influence, according to a Monona Police Department news release.

A passenger, also a 17-year-old male, was unresponsive in the right front seat.

The driver failed sobriety tests and was arrested for OWI.

Police said they recovered two 9 mm handguns, ammunition, a spent shell casing and a large amount of marijuana.

Both teens were transported to the Dane County Jail.
