WINNEBAGO COUNTY (WBAY) — One person died and dozens of people were hurt in a massive pileup during whiteout conditions on southbound Interstate 41 in Neenah.
According to the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office, 131 vehicles were involved in the crash.
The Sheriff’s Office says 71 people were taken to hospitals in the area. Sixty-six of them were treated and released. Five people were admitted for their injuries.
Authorities say it took about two hours to stabilize the scene, which involved getting injured people to the hospital, bussing other people involved in the crash to warming locations and escorting off the highway about 500 vehicles that were stopped behind this crash.
The Neenah Police Department said buses were brought in to help people get off the interstate and to safety. Buses were transporting people to a church in Neenah. Authorities say all family members were reunited after the pileup.
