Railings slated for Camp Randall in time for football season

MADISON (WKOW) — State officials say the installation of hand railings at Camp Randall stadium is scheduled to be completed prior to the coming 2019 football season.

Some season ticket holders urged UW Athletic Department officials to consider putting in the safety feature, with some maintaining attending games was becoming difficult due to trying to climb and descend stadium stairs without support.

Department of Administration Deputy Secretary Tia Torhost tells 27 News a UW Athletic Department request for railings was submitted Feb. 11 to DOA’s Facilities and Management division’s Small Projects Program and was approved. The program is for projects costing $300,000 or less.

Torhost says the project’s substantial completion date is August 2019.

UW Athletic Department officials have yet to comment on the planned renovation work.

State officials have yet to specify whether railings will be installed in all stadium sections, or only in certain, stadium portions.
