Truax Field project on list of possible cuts to pay for border wall

MADISON (WKOW) — A project at Truax Field in Madison is on the Pentagon’s list of military construction projects that could be cut in order to free up money to pay for President Donald Trump’s border wall along the Mexican border.

According to the list, Truax Field is slated to receive $8 million for a small arms range.

A fact sheet released along with the list says the pool of potential military construction projects from which funding could be reallocated are projects with award dates after September 30, 2019.

The list shows the Truax project would be awarded in March of 2020.

The Pentagon has not yet decided from which projects the money will come. It says the fact that a project is within the pool does not mean it will be used.

The Wisconsin National Guard could not be reached for comment.

A project at Fort McCoy is also on the list: $23 million for a transient training barracks with an award date of January of 2020. However, the Pentagon says no military housing, barracks or dormitory projects will be impacted.

President Trump has proposed using $3.6 billion from military construction for some of the funding for construction of the border wall.
