Complaint in Beaver Dam killing: “Daddy was shooting mommy”

The shooting death of a woman Saturday in Beaver Dam stemmed from a child custody dispute, prosecutors said Tuesday.

Ulisses Medina Espinosa shot Stacia Hollinshead because he had been legally prevented from seeing their 5-year-old daughter, prosecutors said during an initial appearance Tuesday in Dodge County Circuit Court.

Medina Espinosa was charged with first-degree intentional homicide and was ordered held on a $2 million cash bail.

“This is the most serious, most brutal and most violent set of facts that I’ve come across,” Assistant Dodge County District Attorney Jim Sempf said during Medina Espinosa’s appearance via video from the Dodge County jail.

According to prosecutors, when police responded to the home Saturday for a 911 call, they found Medina Espinosa playing with his 5-year-daughter.

In the kitchen, they discovered the body of Hollinshead, who prosecutors say had been shot 15 times.

The gun was found in the kitchen sink.
