Woman led troopers on high speed chase with child in car

STOUGHTON (WKOW) — Two people suffered minor injuries after state troopers say a woman led them on a high-speed chase then crashed on southbound Interstate 39 near Stoughton Monday afternoon. Troopers said the woman had an eight-year-old child in the car with her at the time of the crash.

They say the ordeal began 45 minutes earlier near Portage when multiple people reported a Ford Escape driving erratically, passing people on the shoulder. A trooper spotted the car and tried to pull it over, but the State Patrol said the driver wouldn’t stop.

The chase continued toward Madison, but authorities pulled back as the driver approached a congested construction zone near the Beltline.

At about 4:45, Dane County 911 dispatchers were notified of the crash on I-39 near Stoughton. The SUV, a semi-truck, and two other cars were involved.

The woman driving the SUV was arrested and will likely face charges. Authorities brought her eight-year-old passenger to the hospital to be evaluated.
