Madison woman found asleep behind the wheel with 2 babies inside

MADISON (WKOW) — A Madison woman was arrested after she was found asleep behind the wheel in the middle of a downtown roadway with two infants in her vehicle Tuesday afternoon, according to the Madison Police Department.

Police say, just before 3:15 p.m., officers found 37-year-old Rosavi L. Cabrera asleep behind the wheel in a traffic lane near Monona Terrace. They say when Cabrera was found the car was running, and she had her foot on the brake. Officers saw two infants in the backseat of her vehicle.

Officers and firefighters tried to knock on the windows to wake Cabrera up, according to police. They say after that failed, a firefighter broke out the front passenger window, allowing first responders to rescue the two infants.

The infants were brought back to the police department where officers changed their diapers and cared for them.

According to a police report, officers say “both children, after being in our presence, and being in our custody for some time were both calm and playful and seemed to be in good spirits.”

Cabrera was arrested on two counts of second degree recklessly endangering safety, operating while revoked, bail jumping, and fourth offense OWI with passengers under 16-years of age.
