Man, woman in police custody after SWAT standoff near Oconomowoc

UPDATE (WKOW) — A man and woman are in police custody at a hospital after a SWAT standoff Tuesday night on Highway 67 near Oconomowoc.

The Waukesha County sheriff said around 4 p.m. deputies began pursuing a stolen vehicle. During their pursuit, a man inside the vehicle began shooting at law enforcement. The pursuit came to a standstill on Highway 67 on the I-94 overpass.

The man told authorities he was holding a woman hostage inside the car. They say after five hours of negotiations, the driver fled the vehicle while holding the woman at gunpoint.

Tactical officers shot the driver, who is in critical condition. The woman kept running from law enforcement until she was eventually detained, according to sheriffs officials. During their attempt to detain the woman, they say she stabbed a Waukesha County Sheriff’s K-9.

The woman was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition. The K-9 was released from the vet Wednesday morning.

Both are in police custody.
