Standoff suspect shot by police in Marquette County

MARQUETTE COUNTY (WKOW) — Police shot a suspect following a standoff in Marquette County Monday afternoon.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office says a woman called 911 saying her son had a gun in her face. When deputies responded, they said they saw the man outside the house with a long gun. The woman had locked herself inside the home, but upon seeing police, the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office said the man broke back inside.

Deputies from Columbia County were called into help negotiate. Police said when those negotiations were unsuccessful, they entered the home.

That’s when police said the man pointed a long gun at the Columbia County Emergency Tactical Response Team, and a deputy shot him.

The man was taken to the hospital, and police said the Columbia County Sheriff’s deputy was placed on administrative leave, per standard procedure.

The Sauk County Sheriff’s Office will be conducting an investigation into the shooting.
