Lodi’s police department has always been small, but when three officers left this spring, they found themselves at half strength and in need of leadership.
Columbia County Sheriff’s Lt. Wayne Smith was asked to fill the void as the department of six was reduced to three.
“It’s difficult for three people to cover the work of six,” he said. “They lost half of their department in a real short period of time.”
