Suspect runs away after high speed chase, crashed car in Madison

UPDATE (WKOW) — Officers are looking for a man who led police on a high-speed chase, crashed into a fire hydrant and then left the scene, according to the Monona Police Department.

At 1:30 a.m. a Monona officer tried to pull over a silver Pontiac with no license plates driving too fast on Broadway in Monona. The officer terminated the attempt after the car started speeding even faster.

Another Monona officer saw the vehicle farther down the road and tried to stop it. The car accelerated to around 80 miles per hour. That officer also terminated the attempt when they reached Stoughton Road.

A short time later the vehicle was found in the 4500 block of the East Broadway Service Road in Madison where it was disabled after hitting a fire hydrant.

The driver was seen running into a wooded area.

Officers set up a perimeter and used a Monona K-9 to track the suspect. He was not located.
